Deuteronomy 34:5            Follow Instructions
“So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the Word
of the LORD.”
Deuteronomy 34:5

We find out in the preceding verses of this chapter God had taken Moses up into a high mountain to show him the Promised Land, and that Moses was not allowed to enter the Promised Land. This was the man who saw God, received the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai, led the Children of Israel through the wilderness, established the laws and customs of a nation, and yet he was not allowed to enter the Promised Land. Why? The story is found in Numbers 20:1-13. God told Moses and Aaron to bring water out of a rock by speaking to it, and instead Moses struck the rock with the rod God had wrought other miracles through. God told Moses and Aaron that because they did not believe, and failed to sanctify God in the eyes of the Children of Israel, neither of them would enter the Promised Land. Why was Moses prohibited from entering the Promised Land? He didn’t give God the glory for a miracle, and he didn’t have enough faith to follow instructions. CN

Joshua 1:9            Courage
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither
be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Joshua 1:9

Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say,
on the Lord.
Psalms 27:14 Be strong. Have courage. Be not afraid or dismayed, for God
is with you. As we go through life it can be easy to get discouraged or frightened. We
cannot see the whole picture of the puzzle. Sometimes all we can see is that little,
undesirable piece set before us. If we wait on God’s timing He will strengthen our hearts.
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things
of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”
Matthew 6:34But when they deliver you
up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour
what ye shall speak.”
Matthew 10:19 Do not worry. Just do the next thing. Put your trust in
the Lord, He will be with you. This chorus from the song Farther Along written by Rev. W. A. Fletcher reminds me how we should just trust and obey God. “Farther along we’ll know all
about it. Farther along we’ll understand why. Cheer up my brother, live in the sunshine.
We’ll understand it all by and by” “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the
power of His might.”
Ephesians 6:10 AN

Joshua 1:9            Be Not Afraid
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be
thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Joshua 1:9

Do you fear? Why? God not only says be not afraid but to be courageous and strong. How?
By placing our trust and confidence in God who is with us wherever we go. What a comfort
to know that God is always by our side. Psalms 27:1 says “The Lord is my light and my
salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
Be bold. Be strong. For the Lord thy God is with thee. No matter what.
