A Smile From Heaven
I am smiling in Heaven today.
Will you smile for me on earth?
You may have met me at the store
Maybe I stopped to hold your door?
Or fate let me sit at a table nearby,
And I smiled at you when you passed me by.
Perhaps you heard me worshipping the Lord
And thanking Him for His eternal reward.
I probably never found the right key,
But am grateful you still sang with me.
However we met, and our lives did on earth touch,
For this moment in time, I thank you very much.
Sharing a smile and a heart touch with you
Made my day special, my heart happy and new.
You may never have even known my name
But you can remember me as the smiling man just the same.
I never intended to bother or offend
As your attention I tried desperately to win.
I just wanted to give you a sweet smile
And let you know if you wanted, we could visit a while.
Ninety-two years is a long time to live
A long time to think, to love, and to give.
So many memories to try and to store
From childhood to fatherhood, baseball to war,
A lot of life happened in my many years
There was much joy and laughter, sorrow and tears
When the years took their toll, my mind slipped away,
But my love for life and my God did firmly stay.
Today as my time on earth has now passed,
I have found true peace and a love that will last.
If I could smile at you just once more,
If you could pause before you walk through that door,
There’s a story I just want and need to tell
Of how today my mind is doing really well.
You see, it is so sweet to trust in Jesus
To know His Word, His Love, His Mercy for us.
His amazing grace sets the vilest heart free.
His old rugged cross paid sin’s debt for you and me.
Though in time your heart, flesh, and mind too may waver,
Jesus Christ can always be your Lord and your Savior.
Just simply pray, believe, and place your trust in Him
Though you are lost, you can be found, just like in the hymn.
I may have lived this life but a simple man,
But my final days’ work was to share God’s Great Plan.
I could keep on forever but it is time now to close.
I leave you this thought as I finish my life’s prose.
When you pass by the Wards of life please know,
You will certainly reap the seeds you do sow.
Life is not perfect; we all make mistakes.
What matters the most is what Jesus did for our sakes.
That old rugged cross was more than a tree
It brought true peace and eternal liberty.
Whether or not I could remember your name
I never forgot His, and hope you will do the same.
No One is more faithful, loving or true.
He will never leave you, nor ever forsake you.
Just one more smile from the smiling man
In hopes I will touch you for eternity, as perhaps only I can.
